2.  Dialing from a PABX?

    - If you are dialing from a location which has a PBX with extension
telephones you have to make certain that you are using an ANALOG extension
and you may have to dial an additional code for an outside line. In most
cases you need to dial a 0. To accomplish this on your internet dialer,
place a 0, in front of the default telephone number (the comma acts as a 2
second pause which is needed by the PABX)

3.  All settings are good, but still no answer on dialing

    - If all your settings are correct, and you are still having problems, you

Dialup Networking Could Not Negotiate A Compatible Set of Protocols

1. Is TCP/IP installed in Networks (under control panel)?

-To function on the Internet TCP/IP is required. Normally this is installed
as part of your software configuration and can be found under networks in
the control panel. If it is not installed, please refer to the installation
instructions at the top.

Modem Not Responding

1.  Is your modem installed properly?

-Check to ensure that your modem is properly installed, if you are not
sure, the best solution is to erase the current modem installation and
re-install the modem according to the manufacturer instructions for your
current operating system.

computer properly?

    - Check to make sure all cables from the modem to the computer are in good

Port Already Open / Modem in Use By Another Application

1.  Is the modem being used by another application?

    - Before dialing ADANet Internet Services, make sure any third party
applications like FAX or other communications applications which may take
control of the COM port are all turned off. Once connected to the Internet
your telephone line will be busy and these applications will not function.
If you are not sure whether there are other communications applications
running, press the CTRL, Alt and Delete keys in sequence and a window will
pop up. Highlight any known fax applications and click end task to stop it
and then close the window and try dialing again.

multipurpose print/scan/fax devices) and a separate modem. Make sure the

multi-purpose device.

No Dialtone / No Carrier

1.  Is your telephone line active?

-Hook up a telephone to the line you are using to call ADANet Internet
Services. You can do this by using a splitting device at the connection
from the telco, or by plugging the phone into the port on the modem marked
PHONE. Make sure the line from the telco box to the modem is connected to
the port on the modem marked LINE. See if you can hear a dialtone. See if
you can dial. If you cannot, then there is a problem with your telephone
line and you will need to call the telephone company.

2.  Is your telephone line connected properly to the modem?

    - One end of the telephone line goes into the telephone connection box
supplied by the telephone company when they installed your telephone. The
other end should connect to the port on your modem labeled LINE.

3.  Does your modem wait for the dialtone before dialing?

    - Some modems are programmed to expect a specific dialtone frequency. These
types of modems sometimes have problems with "foreign"
dialtones. To overcome this problem, you can go into the modem setup
parameters in Windows and tell the modem to IGNORE the dialtone.

For Windows95/98 - go to dialup networking under my computer, right click
on the ADANet dialer icon, and select properties, Click on the configure
button, and then click on the connection tab. Remove the checkmark (tick)
on wait for dialtone before dialing, then save your settings

For Windows 3.1x - when dialing the telephone number in your connection
script you will see ATDT and then our internet telephone numbers. Replace
ATDT with ATX1DT and this will bypass waiting for the dialtone on dialing.

For MAC users - open configPPP from the control panel folder (under the
apple icon).

Click the connection button in the modem configuration section and change
the initialization string (INIT) to ATX1 then save it.

4.  Dialing from a PABX?

    - If you are dialing from a location which has a PBX with extension
telephones you have to make certain that you are using an ANALOG extension
and you may have to dial an additional code for an outside line. In most
cases you need to dial a 9. To accomplish this on your internet dialer,
place a 9, in front of the default telephone number (the comma acts as a 2
second pause which is needed by the PABX)

Line Dropping Off / Freuquent Disconnections

1. Is your telephone line active?

    - Hook up a telephone to the line you are using to call ADANet Internet

3. Is your port speed set higher than 57,600?

    - The best performance based on the quality of the local telephone
infrastructure is to set your 56kbps, 33.6kbps and/or 28.8kbps modems to
57,600 on the port speed. if you have a 14.4kbps modem, set it to 38,400 or
19,200 port speed. If you are not sure, start at 9600 port speed and work
your way up until it fails. The port speed just before the failure is then
the highest speed available to your modem.

For Windows95/98 users - go to my computer, click on dialup networking,
right click the ADANet Dialer Icon, click on properties. Then click on the
Configure button and choose the port speed from the pull down window.

Windows 3.1x users - Change the speed when the dialing window comes up by
clicking properties, modem- then setting the speed of choice.

MAC users simply go to control panel, click configPPP, click Speed and
change it accordingly.

Try redialing after each change is made so you can determine which speed is
best for your system. If you cannot get connected at the highest rate
possible (57600) and you have the right modem - you may have line problems
or a slow computer, or other misconfigurations which are hampering
performance. These need to be looking into by professional service
technicians.

4. Is your telephone line working well?

    - Sometimes you can have the BEST of configurations and a telephone line
which is poor in quality and your internet experience will suffer. Check
your phoneline frequently for noise and other aspects which may disrupt
your internet experience.
